The transportation of fragile goods is fraught with a number of difficulties. That’s what they say in the truck dispatcher training. But they can be avoided by properly packing electrical goods, dishes, antiques, musical instruments and interior decor belonging to this category, and securing them in transport. In this case, the cargo will be delivered to the addressee in complete safety and on time.
Despite the fact that such goods constitute one large group, they are transported in different ways, depending on the technical characteristics of the goods and the degree of their fragility. So, for the transportation of TVs, not only cardboard boxes are used, but also polystyrene, which is used to surround the equipment around the entire perimeter. The porcelain stoneware is securely fixed on special pallets and then placed in the car body. In any case, how fragile things are transported is determined based on the size of the cargo, its mass, materials from which it is made.
Fragile packaging options
For various lighting fixtures, dishes, plumbing, honeycomb-shaped wooden boxes are more suitable. Each product, additionally wrapped in paper or bubble wrap, has its own cell, the boundaries of which are dense sheets of cardboard. Around the entire perimeter, a box with a fragile load is covered with materials that prevent moisture penetration. Fastening in the car body is carried out using a metal tape.
If the items to be transported are flat, for example, window structures or mirrors, then timber frames with stiffening ribs are optimal for their transportation. Sealing material is also indispensable here. The cargo is tightly rewound with a special tape, tha
nks to which it is securely fixed in the body during the trip. The packaging is labeled about the fragility of the products, as well as where the top of the box is.
When transporting household appliances, cardboard boxes are also widely used. Products fit freely, and the remaining space is completely filled with foam. Those with electrical components need special insulation. It is achieved through materials with antistatic properties. Similar goods are additionally placed in wooden boxes, the inner part of which is lined with moisture-resistant material and pr
otected from any mechanical impact.
How to protect cargo on the road? One of the main concerns when transporting fragile cargo is the potential for damage. Defects can be caused by improper fastening of goods in the body of a vehicle.
Lashing straps are the most popular option for securing products. Polymer tapes, bolts, metal chains are also actively used. However, most containers adapted for such goods already have everything they need to deliver the goods to their destination in proper quality. Traditionally, fasteners are built into one of the walls of the body or the surface of its ceiling.
If special devices for fixing the goods for some reason are not used, it should be extremely tightly positioned in the body using foam sheets. When items are prepared for transportation, the weight of which varies greatly, the heaviest ones are placed in the lower part of the platform, and then they go lighter and lighter – as the mass decreases.
